Manga Wiki

I only noticed this since I watched the RSS feeds here for spam. But you've been importing pages incorrectly. Especially if you're importing pages to be deleted, you should be importing the full page history of each page. The resulting pages have no {{Wikipedia}} to attribute the original page, and they don't attribute the people that actually worked to create the article in the page history itself. That's quite important for a page to be deleted because the contribution history won't even exist on Wikipedia anymore. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Jul 12, 2010 @ 02:42 (UTC) 02:42, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to add the link to the Wikipedia article to every article I imported, as soon as I figure out how that's done. There should be a bot for it. I posted on the proper help forum asking. There is no way to import all the histories that I know of, other than getting every single file, one at a time, and hoping the total isn't above a certain file size. Dream Focus 02:46, July 12, 2010 (UTC)
  • Someone gave me an answer to one of my questions. [1] Look at the top part saying where to find the original source of articles at. That should do it. Dream Focus 02:51, July 12, 2010 (UTC)
As per the full histories, you should be using Wikipedia's Special:Export. There is an option on the bottom to include the full histories, I'm not sure how you were doing to otherwise.--Sxerks 23:55, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
That doesn't work. Wikia will not import any file above a certain size. Some files have histories on their own too large to manage. Others are only too large if I export them in batches. Dream Focus 01:32, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

I am wikipedia:User:I-20.

Anyway, are you importing deleted Wikipedia articles? (I'm not a sysop on Wikipedia) If so, how? ΩpenBSDWiki 02:58, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

I go to the list of all manga and anime articles currently nominated for deletion: I then save them, with their entire history, and the images that are found in them. If you want to import something that has already been deleted, you have to talk to an administrator and ask them on their talk page to usify it.[2] They'll restore it long enough to copy it to your user page, and you can export it from there. The closing administrator was contacted on his talk page and then restored it, first by accident to the wrong user page [3], he then copied it over to the proper one. [4] Dream Focus 03:08, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
Awesome. May I help? ΩpenBSDWiki 04:39, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
I already mass imported everything in the manga or manga related categories, bringing over thousands of articles that way. I discussed it on the Anime and Manga Wikiproject[5], and they stated there was no way for administrators to resurrect all deleted manga articles at one time for my to transwiki over, and weren't likely to do it with any large numbers anyway. Asking for one once in awhile would work, but for the hundreds already lost, there is no salvation. If you fill like helping, you can go to the manga articles over at Wikipedia, and save the images in them. Then come here and find the same article, and click the red link where the image should go, and then load it up. I think everything else that can be done, already has been. Everything I can think of. Yes, its automatic. I'm not sure if there is even a way to turn it off. It happens on all wikias. Anyway, I see you have done some work on the troublesome template. I did ask for help [6] and someone figured out what was wrong, but no one able to actually fix it. Right now quite a number of articles are not loading up properly because of it. Dream Focus 01:28, August 31, 2010 (UTC)
I saw that discussion; that's what spurred me to have a look. Truth is, I have no idea why the template isn't working properly; other templates doing the exact same stuff in their code work on Wikia. This may be a case where a complete rewrite is necessary. However, I would disagree with the person who said Wikipedia templates are moving away from HTML; to the contrary, I like to stalk keep track of what a number of the really prolific template editors on Wikipedia are up to, and can say that in just about any case where tables + ParserFunctions are involved, HTML is generally preferred over wikimarkup. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 01:37, August 31, 2010 (UTC)

Welcome. Yes, Wikia is far nicer, most wikis I've been to rather pleasant. I haven't figured out how to get all of the imported Wikipedia templates to work properly here, but overall, everything seems functional. I imported over every single manga related category I came across at the Wikipedia and then some. I just found out how to fix the Google search results this morning, so when people search for "manga wiki" hopefully it'll bring them here. Previously it was mangawiki, one word, which no one was likely to search for. Dream Focus 19:46, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

Problem regarding wiki templates

The page you told me was having "html problems" actually has none. Everything is definately properly formated and correct, at least in terms of the wiki code. The problem with this seems to be that this wiki not having the template for the "Graphic novel list/header". Thus, as an administrator, it is your job to make sure that it's installed properly. Be sure to consult some higher up for help on this matter, since I cannot do anything from this point onwards.

Also, I'm sorry to say, I made a mistake with the wikis. I ended up joining the wrong one - this one - so I don't think I will be lurking here anymore. The wiki I intended to join was a completely seperate entity on the wikia servers. Good luck with working on this one.

Hikayu 17:25, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

I did import all the necessary templates from Wikipedia. [7] Its just that some don't work on Wikia. See the discussion at [8] Dream Focus 22:30, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I saw the Wiki's logo here. I assume that's the Wiki-wordmark, but it's not in use. Could you set it up (using Theme Designer)? *Bereisgreat (shout!) 12:40, July 11, 2011 (UTC)

No. As discussed before its not something good to use. The g doesn't look like a proper letter g, and the two letter a's are different than each other, the letter n is too large and misshapen, and no need for that. Wiki-chan is the only thing I'd used, if wordmark allowed that dimension. Dream Focus 15:08, July 11, 2011 (UTC)

new manga

i just started to make it —This unsigned comment was made by Jessegabbott (talkcontribs) .

Make it, make a site for it, then have an article for it and linking to it. That's fine. Got to have one issue done first. Dream Focus 04:32, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

Just a heads-up, main page ads are being turned on for this wiki. Because of this, I've made a change to the main page in order to avoid a placement conflict between the content and the adspace. Without this change, the ad would display on top of the current content, blocking it from users. Obviously, you are welcome to make further adjustments as you see fit - this is just a "quick-fix" to avoid a visual conflict. Please feel free to contact me on my talk page if you have any questions, comments, or issues.

Normally, I try to make the mainpage look as close to the way it was before the ad as possible while leaving as little blank space as I can. In this case, the answer would be splitting the left and right sides up into the left and right columns, which would ruin the current symmetry of the main page. If you would prefer the less symmetrical look to having blank space, please let me know and I will make the change. (profile)•(talk)•(email) 04:25, November 20, 2011 (UTC)

Need help

Hi I can see you are the most recently active bureaucrat at manga here. I am concerned about this. They are trying to delete the wikia for School Days. I know there is a manga series for this visual novel that preceded the anime. I think because neither the manga or anime have sex depicted in them that we should have this wiki and simply not include the scenes from the game, but brandon wants to delete it all. Can you help? +y@talk 05:14, February 19, 2012 (UTC)

Are there any pages on this wikia you want copied over? Wikipedia changed their export over a month ago, so I can no longer export anything from there which wikia will import. I'm busy working with other things, including other wikias. I don't have time to help with yet another one. Try to Google search for a "forum" which talks about related things, and then post there inviting people over to join. That might work. Dream Focus 16:39, April 2, 2012 (UTC)

Notability guidelines

I am interesting in making pages about various obscure manga authors and their obscure works here. I would like to know, are there guidelines on establishing the notability? Like for example, do they need to be published in a magazine that's sold a given amount of copies? Can they publish their manga as independent doujins at markets?

Also wondering in regard to those whose works have been 'scanlated'. I'm not familiar with Wikia policies on the issue. Presumably if works have been officially licensed in the US or something we can't link to them, but can we if they're only out in Japanese in Japan?

Presuming we could, would this be unallowed in the case of manga with H events? In that case, would we be permitted to organize them on the basis of the name of translator(s) or group(s) who have scanned them, enabling people to easily look up the translation without directly linking to it?

Also wondering if it would be okay if I did archives for your 2010/2011 convos to clear up some room.

I considered approaching w:c:Animanga for this but I'm thinking there might be some bias there in favour of only making articles for the very well-known series (especially those with anime adaptations or their own wikia projects) and that this one dedicated to manga might potentially be more inclusive and freeform in terms of contributions.

For example: in terms of the templates avaialble, is it absoluetly necessary to utilize templates off the bat, or can we code an article freehand and leave it up to people more comfortable with the wiki's templates to add them and incorporate information into them? Some sites like w:c:ProWrestling/w:c:DC/w:c:Marvel/w:c:AniManga are very strict about always having to use templates and I've found myself hesitating at a herculean task of adding info, and I always wonder if potential contributors feel this way.

In the case of authors we know have created multiple works, I am wondering if it is okay to set up categories for those works ahead of time, and if there would be a way other than Category:Titles by author or whatever to organize them. Possibly stuff like "authors published in B magazine" or whatever. Or authors by year/decade of birth or publication initiation. +Yc 20:08, November 6, 2012 (UTC)

There is no shortage of space, so no notability guidelines exist. You can put whatever you want, we having H things already. Don't link to illegal scans of things, that violating Wikia policies. When I adopted the empty vacant shell that was and mass imported over ten thousand articles from the Wikipedia, to them constantly deleting articles back then and I wanting to make sure I saved them all, Animanga had given up and just turned themselves into a link to other wikias. I see they have apparently changed. They take some articles from Wikipedia, and then eventually change them up a bit. Hmm... Anyway, you can create articles for any manga or anime series, characters, powers, items, whatever, as long as its somehow related to manga or anime. That includes articles on culture, companies, cosplay, voice actors, artists, or whatever.
I copied all the templates from Wikipedia. Can you change things somehow without causing a lot of broken links or errors? If so, go for it. And you can create new categories. Also, you can have list pages to show a list of everything they've done, and list of everything a magazine has ever had. Categories and list can both go well together, they not competition. Dream Focus 21:55, November 6, 2012 (UTC)

In regard to characters/powers/items I'm probably going to avoid making articles since there might be a lot of overlap (like think if there are a dozen characters with the name 'Sakura' what a cluttered disambig that'd be).

One thought I did have though: when people do create character or whatever content here, such content could be organized and via Special:Export used as information to seed new wikia projects.

I'm not sure animanga's given up, they do have pages for series that don't yet have wikis after all. I think it's more like they want to fixate on template-making pages from scratch as opposed to directly mirroring wikipedia pages via Special:Import.

I think the importing is a good idea though because it helps to make sure the sheer mass of content is adequately represented. The date-based categories are particularly good I think (Category:Works by date) since they allow us to do simpler numerical comparisons to see if we're missing a work from a given year, either meaning the page is absent or it's not totally categorized. +Yc 23:43, November 6, 2012 (UTC)

7 Seeds

Hello Dream Focus! Thank you very much for your friendly message! I'm really sorry - I completely forgot to contact you before editing this page; I should have remembered that it is very rude to do such big edits without even asking the previous editors. I hope you didn't feel hurt by my rash actions.

I would be really, really delighted if you would like to support the new 7 Seeds wiki (link on the edited page) as well. I made it to inform the fans and any other people interested in this awesome manga. But I had to learn that the editing of this wiki is quite different from the original wikipedia language, and so I'm at quite a loss at to how to improve the visual appearance of the 7 Seeds wiki. Especially the break lines always shrink back together - to leave them open in order to improve the readability, I had to resort to using _ to keep open the free space. Maybe you could teach me how I can edit the text better?

I didn't insert pictures yet because I want to respect Tamura Yumi's copyright of her wonderful drawings; but I'm currently in a process of getting more support for 7 Seeds being published in English language and asking Tamura-sama for the permission of using the images for non-profit use on the 7 Seeds wiki. The new wiki is part of that campaign, but I still need to improve it a lot.

I'm really looking forward to working together with you!

Lg, Ysaye 1 (talk) 08:54, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

Don't erase content. I put a note at the top of that page telling people you had a wikia for that series. Good luck. Click on "My Tools" and then find the "theme editor". If its not listed then click on "All pages" and find it there. That'll help you change the appearance of the wikia. Dream Focus 09:29, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

Alright, thank you very much for inserting this note, and again, I'm very sorry for acting so rashly about your page!

About the note - I only made the text bold a bit and inserted a line so that it wouldn't be overseen so easily at first glance. Is it alright like this, I hope?

If you're a fan of 7 Seeds as well, how about working together on the new 7 Seeds wiki?

Lg, Ysaye 1 (talk) 10:48, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

I have too many wikias I work on to keep track of already. I'm not really into this serious though. Try finding fansites and forums where people talk about it, and ask people to join you. Google search for "7 Seeds" "forum" and see what appears. Dream Focus 11:02, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

I noticed this was a red link at 2 articles you edited in 2010: List_of_manga_publishers#Japanese and A Wish of My Sister. I just made w:c:Akaneshinsha for documenting this company and was wondering if since you have experience moderating this manga wiki if you had any advice for managing it or might like a sysop position there. I'm making fair use of heavily cropped low-res covers which I'm naming with the publication dates that their site uses. talk2ty 07:13, May 12, 2014 (UTC)

Unlike Wikipedia, you don't have to make the covers low res. The higher the quality level the better. I see from the cover art that that publishing company deals with pornography. You might want to check other wikias that deal with that sort of thing. Perhaps have a page for each title like does and let it expand from there. I Googled "hentai" and "wikia" and found and among other results. Dream Focus 08:50, May 12, 2014 (UTC)

Great. Is there an easy way(like a bot or something) to grab all the possible data/label entries from existing templates, and merge them, or do you have to enter them in one at a time? There are a lot of templates after all. [[11]] Don't think we probably need most of those of course. Dream Focus 17:44, July 22, 2016 (UTC)

Happy to say I fixed it! Check it out here! The reason there is blank boxes is due to a lack of content being put into them, not a glitch in the template. EDIT: Here is an example with all the sections filled out.   HoneyCandiez

I don't control the wikia/fandom spam filter. Which pages are you having problems with? Did you add a link to something on their global ban list? If you are a new user maybe it blocks certain pages. Dream Focus 15:54, April 2, 2019 (UTC)

Hello, I am an admin on Quintet Wiki. I was wondering if you would be interested in being affiliated with us. If so, please leave me a message and I can send you our wordmark.

The Manga wiki is for manga and anime, not video games. Dream Focus 15:44, October 23, 2019 (UTC)

Another disaster! was messing up with Baby Felix and Friends! Voice cast! Fixed it in Wikipedia! Now! Dream Focus, I need you to fix that!

Anyone can edit Wikipedia, even without registering an account. Just hit revert. Dream Focus 17:22, December 16, 2019 (UTC)

Baby Felix and Friends Cast?

What dose that mean? Don't you undo the edited by in Baby Felix now? Before it is too late? I also send the letter to Don Oriolo and accept it and he can do it!? Yeah!! Can you undo it now in Wikipedia? 19:58, December 17, 2019‎ CatIdea17

Possible Affiliations

I was wondering if I be an affiliation of Manga Wiki with Bakugan Couples Wiki and Inuyasha Couples Wikia? 00:42, November 22, 2021‎ Dejahnnaw

I don't have any affiliation page. I just list every manga and anime there is. Anyone can link to us though. You might want to look for the wikis dedicated to those series, and talk to them about your couples fan fiction for them. Dream Focus 03:44, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

MediaWiki extensions

Hi! I'd like to make some templates for this wiki, and was wondering if you as an administrator could request some extensions for this wiki? I would like to use the following extensions: Variables, Loops and Dynamic Page Listing (DPL). — SandyTree 17:35, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Request submitted. Dream Focus 22:29, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
They just added it with a warning to read because it uses a lot of server effort apparently. Dream Focus 17:23, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
