Twilight of the Dark Master (支配者の黄昏, Shihaisha no Tasogare?) is a Japanese anime film based on a manga by Saki Okuse by the same name. It was produced by Masao Maruyama, directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, and the screenplay was written by Duane Dell'Amico. The film was distributed and licensed in 1997 by Urban Vision.

It is part of the Kaen Majin manga, and takes place after the ending of Kaen Majin - Satin the Peerage (火閻魔人).

Plot[]

Anime Version:[]

Long ago, the Great Mother Spirit created demons, guardians, and humans. In 2089, in Neo-Shinjuku, only a few demons and guardians remain. Tsunami Shijo is an ancient (fire-manipulating) guardian from days long ago to aid a fledgling human race. Tsunami is looking for a human who was transformed into a monster by drugs. This leads him to Mr. Takamiya, the Demon leader, who killed his lover.

Tsunami becomes involved with a woman who has just lost her fiancé and her arm, and now wants to figure out why this has happened. Meanwhile, the Demon leader is still alive and plotting to enslave mankind. Will Tsunami defend earth once again, or be corrupted as two other guardians have been by the Demon leader?

Manga Version:[]

In 2019, there are areas in Shinjuku where radioactivity remains due to a small-scale nuclear terrorist attack. There, Tsunami Shijō, who opens a detective agency, receives a request from Shizuka Tachibana. Her request is to find her lover, Eiji Kuraza, who had become a demon, and to exterminate him. Tsunami, whose main job is exterminating demons, accepts her case and begins an investigation. The reason behind Shizuka's lover turning into a demon was a drug created by a pharmaceutical company.

Trivia[]

  • Differences between the manga and anime movie:
    • The movie makes it seem that it was Tsunami's lover who was killed by Takamiya. However, in the manga, it was actually his mother.
    • Tenku actually played a slightly bigger role in the manga. He's also not as friendly or easily taken down as portrayed in the anime.
    • The final battle was just as anti-climatic in the manga. It didn't take place in space. It was simply Takamiya mocking Tsunami with his mother's body, with him ending it by using his power to cause an explosion of fire to destroy him.
    • Twilight of the Dark Master takes place in Shinjuku in February 2019 in the manga.
    • Twilight of the Dark Master's manga is the only one out of the entire manga series that was released in English. Kaen Majin - Satin the Peerage and Kaen Majin - Onibarai have never been released in other languages to date.
