Tsukino-Con is an annual three-day anime convention held at The University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and organized in association with the UVic Anime Club. It is held in February during the University's reading break.

Programming[]

Tsukino-Con's programming is delivered through two auditoriums and four panel rooms which host events and panels, an anime screening room, a videos games room, card games room, board games room, two pen and paper RPG rooms and a room dedicated to its own Pokemon League. Notable events include a cosplay contest, panels, lolita fashion show and a talent show. Tsukino-Con has traditionally boasted a number and quality of events similar to conventions of a much larger size.

In 2010, Tsukino-Con held its first convention and had its first Lolita Fashion Show.

In 2011, Tsukino-Con had its first overseas guest, cultural consultant Akemi Solloway

In 2012, Tsukino-Con expands to include the Clearihue C wing which is dedicated to gaming.

In 2013, Tsukino-Con had its first voice actors as guests: Cristina Vee and Christine Marie Cabanos.

In 2014, Tsukino-Con reaches 100 panels and events. Tracy Moore (English Voice Actress, Sailor Moon) shows up out of the blue.

In 2015, Tsukino-Con hosts its first Japanese voice actor, Satsuki Yukino.

History[]

Tsukino-Con was preceded by Kei-Kon, Victoria's previous anime convention which ran for seven years (2003 - 2009) and was organized by Kelly Clark. With his retirement as chair, Kelly wished to have the convention re-imagined and run under a new name. To this end, he appointed Adam Park and Jill Hughes as co-chairs and, among several candidates, the name Tsukino-Con was decided by public vote. After the first Tsukino-Con in 2010, Jill Hughes stepped down as co-chair to teach English abroad. In 2013, Tsukino-Con welcomed its first voice actor guests, Cristina Vee and Christine Marie Cabanos. As Tsukino-Con breached the 2000 attendee mark, it became apparent that incorporation would soon be necessary, and in September 2014, Tsukino-Con Society was officially formed. In January of 2015, Adam Park announced that a transition in power had been underway over the past year and formally stepped down as chair, ending his five year tenure. Adam was replaced by Natasha Tuskovich, who was elected to the position of chair; she had served as vice chair since 2011. In 2015, Tsukino-Con announced its first Japanese voice actor, Satsuki Yukino.
