Hybrid Child (ハイブリッド チャイルド?) is a one-shot Japanese manga written and illustrated by Shungiku Nakamura; the creator of Junjou Romantica. It is licensed in North America by Digital Manga Publishing,[1] which released the manga through its imprint, Juné, on August 16, 2006.[2]

Reception[]

Library Journal's Rebecca Schaffner comments that the manga is "a gay version of Clamp's Chobits without any of the saving graces." She also comments on the manga's art, saying , "Nakamura's drawing style is angular and inert, so that, ironically, her human characters look as doll-like as the Hybrid Children."[3] Comics Village's Katherine Farmar comments that "Hybrid Child is unconventional in being so downbeat [for a BL]; even the stories that aren't entirely tragic have a melancholy air to them, a sense of sorrow and loss. If you look on it as science fiction, Hybrid Child is not really satisfactory, since Nakamura doesn't really explore the nature of the Hybrid Children all that much, and eventually pushes them aside, preferring to focus on the human characters.[4]
